There is no one way to run this project in your school, especially during these unusual times, but here are some suggestions:
Please also encourage your children to enter the competitions in Buzz magazine - there are prizes for individual pupils as well as a whole school prize for school with best overall responses.
These awards are open to every school with primary aged pupils in Kingston and Richmond. This includes Primary, Infant, Junior, Special, Private and Preparatory schools.
We want to engage with as many children as possible. At the local Head Teachers' Conference in March already 50 head teachers expressed an interest in taking part but we hope for many more!
Each school can take part in helping choose the winning books for one, two or all three of these awards.
There is a small charge of £50 for each award you participate in*.
The charge will entitle your school to one set of the shortlisted books in each category, publicity material both paper and online, as well as access to at least one online author event over the course of the project and the final online ceremony. There will also be the opportunity to purchase further copies of the books at a 30% discounted price (this is a time limited offer and is only available during the two weeks following the announcement of the shortlisted books).
Thank to you everyone who dontated towards our disadvantaged book fund. With your help we raised an incredible £1,200 and provided nearly 200 books to local children.
After shortlisting, the process is handed over to all the participating schools and pupils in the two boroughs.
Pupils will have from January to June to read the books and decide on their favourites.
Spark! will publish suggested activities, approaches and resources for using the books in classrooms or with groups of pupils. They will take account of how we may need to manage in a post-Covid-19 era.
You can register your school by completing the online form linked below.
*Please note that Spark! is a non-profit award, any money will be used to maximise pupil engagement and links with authors. Funds will be overseen by AfC.
We have vacancies for up to 3 teachers in each category. Please complete the form below if you are interested.
Thank you to everyone who applied to be on our short-listing panels - the form is now closed. We are now considering the submissions and will get back to all applicants soon.
These awards are led by an independent group of people working in education in Kingston & Richmond Schools. Spark! is working closely with AfC and is supported by the Education Leads of the two councils.
WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR THE SUPPORT OF THE REGENCY BOOKSHOP IN SURBITON AND for CLARE SPENcER DESIGN, WHO PROVIDED our Spark! logo.
