The Spark Awards are an independent set of awards supported by both Kingston and Richmond Councils and in particular by Achieving for Children, who oversee education across the two boroughs and who are providing time and resources to the project, although it is largely funded by the schools themselves.
We are constantly looking for additional funding that will ensure that more of most disadvantaged pupils get the opportunity to take part in these awards and can access high quality books.
Spark! is jointly managed by Mark Clutterbuck, Head Teacher at Coombe Hill Junior School in Kingston and Debbie Thomas, Lead School Improvement Adviser (English) at AfC, with support from the small Spark! team. Mark and Debbie have a long-standing commitment to promoting reading and quality writing for children and young people.
We couldn't have lauched the Spark! Book Awards alone and are hugely grateful to a number of people and organisations. We would like to extend a special thank you to:
The Regency Bookshop in Surbiton, who have helped to provide the huge number of books to local schools and pupils (at a discounted rate!)
Clare Spencer Design, who provided our Spark! logo, Buzz magazine and branding designs. Clare can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
These awards are led by an independent group of people working in education in Kingston & Richmond Schools. Spark! is working closely with AfC and is supported by the Education Leads of the two councils.
WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR THE SUPPORT OF THE REGENCY BOOKSHOP IN SURBITON AND for CLARE SPENcER DESIGN, WHO PROVIDED our Spark! logo.
